There are so many reasons why a guy should shave his legs. For a guy who works in a packaging plant and is required to wear thermal underwear every day, having body hairs might cause major discomfort. Some athletes, like swimmers, runners, cyclists etc regularly shave their legs to reduce drag, and increase speed. If you scan through fashion and sporting magazines, you find men with plenty of beef but no hair.
Unless you look very closely, you wouldn’t even notice the absence of hair, because it is so common now, ‘manscaping’, including removal of hair from the legs, is becoming mainstream.
Never doubt that if a guy takes the time to properly groom himself, and take good care of himself, women will notice! So why not consider shaving your legs? As a first step you could trim the hair down really close with a trimmer and see if you’ are happy with the results, or shave it real close with a razor.
How to Shave Legs for Gents:
1. Ideally, you need to gather all the things needed before getting started.
- Manual razor with a new blade
- Thick shaving cream
- Hair Trimmer
- Water, soap, lotion
2. If the leg hairs are long, it will be difficult to shave it directly with the use of a razor. It is advisable to use clippers or body hair trimmers to cut down hairs to a minimal length making it easier for the razor to shave afterwards. After reducing length with your trimmer, check the results, if you have trimmed them very close, you might be satisfied that there’s no need to shave further. You can now stop here if you’re satisfied or continue if you want a nice clean, close shave.
3. You have to do this in the bathroom or shower. Make sure you’re in a good position to avoid slipping. Wash both legs with the use of soap and warm water. This will result in smoother shaves as it will exfoliate the skin at the same time.
4. Grab a good shaving cream, preferably one your have used before and which does not irritate your skin. If you have sensitive skin invest in a quality brand.
5. Spread the shaving cream evenly on the legs, lathering the entire leg.
6. Gently glide the razor with enough pressure to shave the hairs. Don’t push too hard, just let the razor blades do their work. For first timers, start by shaving in the direction of the hair growth, then reverse direction and shave against the grain to get closer shave. Remember, take your time and avoid shaving over and over again in one area to avoid irritations.
7. While shaving, regularly rinse off the hair and shaving cream that cling to your razor. This will make sure the razor will glide smoothly throughout the entire shaving process.
8. After undesired leg hairs are removed, rinse off the legs thoroughly with water. Dry legs by gently tapping with a clean towel, you can then apply body lotion into the skin if you wish.
For some, everyday shaving might leave you with bumpy skin, leading to cuts and irritation. If so, you might consider just trimming your leg hairs with the use of body hair trimmers or even beard trimmers, to trim hair as close as possibly. There are also other methods for removing unwanted body hair that offer longer lasting results than shaving. Laser hair removal could be one, although its expensive and could cost thousands of dollars. Epilating for men is now becoming a popular method for removing unwanted hairs. This method can last for up to 2-3 weeks. Epilating is done with the use of an epilator, that removes the hair by grasping multiple hairs simultaneously and pulls them out. Honestly, this will be a lot more painful than shaving but it does reduce the frequency. Waxing for men is another alternative that could offer longer lasting results but it is also significantly more painful than shaving, and also expensive over time.
Whichever hair removal method you choose, make the effort to groom yourself well. Women will notice, and that’s got to be a good thing!
