If you’re new to electric shavers, you should give it some time before judging the performance of your shaver. It might take several shaves or even more. Maybe 3 – 4 weeks of using your electric shaver exclusively before you get used to it, the key is to never give up. Before long your shaving experience will improve.
It is also best not to compare your experience to the reviews of others, as shaving is a personal experience and our perceptions vary.Depending on our skin and hair types we also get different results. The process is just like trial and error until you get your best result with the greatest comfort. So make sure you allow time for you to adjust to ‘your shaver, and experiment in using it in different ways before deciding that it’s just best to buy another electric shaver.
Before Shaving
It is not ideal to shave as soon as you wake up. Our bodies build up fluid while we’re sleeping making, making the area to be shaved puffy. This can make it hard to achieving your closest shave. If you allow around 30 minutes generally the puffiness will go down and shaving can commence.
Dry Shaving
When its time to start, the last thing to check is that your skin is really dry, so you might want to shave even before washing your face. Start shaving by just applying gentle pressure to the face, holding the shaver at a 90 degree angle and shave against the grain. Stretch your skin using your free hand then move the shaver back & forth (when using a foil shaver), or in straight & circular motions when using a rotary shaver. Sometimes, you have to apply more pressure in some areas, but make sure you don’t do it excessively as it will lead to skin irritation. Once your skin becomes accustomed to the shaver, you can gently increase the pressure.
Wet Shaving
Some electric shaver models allow you to shave in the shower or even in the rain or at the kitchen sink , with the help of some shaving cream. The set up is similar to using manual razors. By washing your face and rubbing on some shaving cream (some manufactures, like Philips Norelco, recommend the use of a thick lathering shaving foam or gel). Remember, before your electric shaver touches your skin, you have to wet it.. While shaving, continuously rinse the shaver to ensure it continues to smoothly glide across your face.
After Shaving
I normally rinse my face with cold water. Placing the hands under the faucet and gently washing my face. It is best not to rub the shaved area to prevent more redness. Same when wiping the face with a clean towel, I simply just dab towel to dry my face. I also make sure to clean the electric shaver every time I finish using it. Some shavers come with an auto cleaning system while others require manual cleaning. For manual cleaning, simply rinse the shaver under running water. With foil shavers, sometimes you can take off the cap and gently take out any debris using the included cleaning brush. Once your done, if you feel some itchiness, you can splash some cold water on your face using your hands. Then you can go outside or just open the window to get some fresh air flowing over your face. Most of the time, itchiness will just disappear with these very simple methods.
P.S. Make sure to read the manuals before using you new Shaver. Take note of the recommendations of the manufacturer on how the electric shaver should be used for the best results. From there, experiment with new techniques until you get your best results. Everyone deserves a nice smooth shave, happy shaving!!!
